Privacy Policy
Speak & Go ("the app", "we") teaches spoken Japanese to travelers. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run your account and lessons, we don't show ads, and we don't sell or share your data for marketing.
What we collect
Account. When you sign in with Apple we receive a user identifier and an email address (which may be Apple's private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email"). This is used only to create and sync your account.
Learning data. Your course progress, streaks, starred phrases, saved translations, and any custom scenarios you create are stored with your account so they sync across reinstalls.
Voice audio. When you practice speaking, your microphone audio is sent to our servers and processed by speech services (Microsoft Azure Speech for pronunciation scoring, OpenAI for live conversation) to power the feature you are using. Audio is processed in real time to generate scores, transcripts, and replies; we do not build voice profiles and we do not use your audio for advertising. Transcripts of practice conversations may be stored with your account so you can review them.
Text you translate or practice. Text is processed by AI providers (Google Gemini via our backend) to generate translations and conversation replies.
Purchases. Subscription status is managed by Apple. We receive an anonymous receipt/entitlement status — never your payment details.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad SDKs, no third-party analytics trackers.
- No selling or renting of personal data.
- No cross-app tracking; the app does not request the App Tracking Transparency permission because it doesn't track.
Service providers
We use the following processors strictly to operate the app: Supabase (authentication), Amazon Web Services (hosting), Microsoft Azure (speech assessment), OpenAI (live conversation), Google (translation/AI generation), PostHog (product analytics), Apple (sign-in, payments). Each receives only the data required for its function.
Usage analytics. We record which features you use (for example completing a lesson or opening the translator) to understand what to improve. These events are tied to your account, stay within our systems and PostHog, and are never sold or used for advertising.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Me → Delete Account inside the app, or by emailing us at the address below. Deletion is permanent and completes within 30 days.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll note it in the app and update the date above.
